Duarte Lobo Antunes

Director

Duarte is the Director of A IS FOR ARCHITECTURE.

He graduated from the Porto University School of Architecture and has an MA in Architectural History from the Bartlett, UCL. ​

Duarte has a proven track record of delivering complex projects in the UK and internationally.

He interned with Aires Mateus in Lisbon and from 2007 worked with Herzog & de Meuron in Basel, Switzerland. From 2013 he was at ACME in London where he oversaw several award-wining projects, most notably the stair at One New Change, the Marsa Plaza, in Muscat, Oman and the Folkestone Seafront Masterplan. ​

2019 to 2023 he ran an MArch Studio at the Canterbury School of Architecture, UCA.

Since 2024 he has a been a member of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Quality Review Panel,contributing to design quality throughout the borough.

His ability to find unexpected yet logical and convincing solutions to design challenges has helped drive the practice’s growth. He is also a clear communicator of the studio’s design process and vision, whether presenting to large audiences or engaging with clients and collaborators in more informal settings.
